I know, we should not say we are old, but Jane and I like to make jokes about being some of the oldest competitors at horse shows. Today, we loaded Bart and Derry into the trailer and drove over to the National Equestrian Center to school for the Flying Fox Horse Show this weekend. The show is sold out – it’s huge! We are probably the oldest riders, which takes a lot of pressure off. This is a “local” show, put on by the new owner of Irish Fox Stables (now Flying Fox Stables). There are so many entries that the management has added an extra ring – an outdoor jumper ring. Jane and I, though, will be showing indoors in the Open Hunters (not at all our usual division). We are using this as preparation for showing in Ohio and Omaha, both of which shows are indoors, so we plan to practice around the indoor ring this weekend, even though that means hunter classes.
Meanwhile, back at Bronze Fox Farm, life has been good. The birds are a joy always.
Harry returns from the studio with his pack of dogs.
Today, Harry was coming home from errands, and I was returning from setting up stalls at the horse show. We both arrived at the stop sign at the same time, from different directions. I looked over – there was Harry with Weedy, sitting beside him in the passenger seat, paying close attention. What a picture! But no photos while driving, alas.
Last night we had dinner with good friends, John and Laura.
Today, I saw an oak tree in St. Charles County covered with oak galls. These are related to the occurrence of oak mites, which I now dread after my encounter with them last year! I am hoping to avoid them this year.
Rosie and Roscoe are siblings, and both are very sound sleepers.
Apologies for a disjointed blog post. I must rest, like those cats, to be ready for tomorrow’s horse show!
Be safe, be strong. Pray for Ukraine. The news is horrific. Peace, please.
Good luck have fun!
Peace
See you there!
I swear, I can feel your joy and anticipation of the horse show all the way over here in Kentucky! What lucky old ladies! Senor Flicker must have been designed in Italy, Armani, Prada, maybe Ferragamo! No!, it’s Donatello Versace!! Great shot of his take off!
So amazing and happy to read you and Jane both are still competing this Spring. Enjoy your status as wizened elders!
