The forecast is cooling toward winter at last. I’m not a fan of winter, but I do appreciate the seasons, and they are definitely changing differently of late. Knowing there was rain in the forecast, Sunday was dedicated to replacing two broken fence posts. I have become quite proficient, and was I looking forward to showing off to Harry my technique of extracting the broken end of the post.
Naturally, I ran into problems. “There was never a horse that couldn’t be rode, and never a cowboy that couldn’t be throwed”, as the old rodeo saying goes. This fence post almost defeated me. Harry did not mock my incompetence, and just offered advice and support. Just as I was despairing, the recalcitrant (and very rotten) piece of post surrendered.
We moved on to the next broken post, with lowered expectations and more humility on my part. The very first tug produced the post (two thumbs up this time) and there was enough daylight left to finish fence repairs for the winter. A huge relief! I have seldom been so tired after two days of fairly hard physical labor. I’m feeling my age!
Sure enough, the week began with rain. Luckily, our Irish horses (and Stone) appreciate the damp.
Also appreciative of rain are the various fungi, which I love to see. They are usually finished by this time of year, but we have not yet had a really cold spell. I am too lazy to research the various types, but I plan to work on that soon. Meanwhile, I just take pictures and marvel at the varieties. This planet, even in an uncelebrated place, is astounding, if we take time to pay attention.
The animals, wild and tame, are still my favorites.
We had a visit from Regina and Greg yesterday. Regina is the niece of our very dear friend, Pat, who died in June, 2020. Pat was an extraordinary person. We met her when we were newlyweds, and treasured her friendship for 35 years. Pat’s greatest legacy, alongside many fond memories, is Regina, who brings reverberations of Pat to our life. Over a delicious lunch, we discussed the meaning of our brief lives here, and luck, amongst many subjects. Luck should never be understated, nor should meaning. We have been so very lucky, including the great good fortune of knowing these fascinating young people!
And so it goes, another week washes under the bridge as the leaves diminish and the days grow short.
Be safe, be well, be lucky, and kind, and grateful. Slava Ukraini! Peace.
Eddy and Weedy looked thrilled with your visitors. I am fascinated by your two orange cats. They seem joined at the hip and make such cool images.
Wow, I love your new camera images! And it is so good to see Eddy thriving with his new system. The orange boys are adorable and all humans look happy, happy to see all is well at BFF.
