More Rain – Sunday, June 27, 2021

The weather today was unsettled all day. We were very lucky, though. Nathaniel offered to come and mow grass mid afternoon. At that point, it wasn’t raining. While he rode the big mower, I did push mowing, and in three hours we were all finished. The rain began as I pushed the mower into the shed! Some days are auspicious.

It was a quiet and productive day, but very wet, with rain falling when we got up this morning. It cleared for most of the day, but temperatures rose.

I walked down to the ring and around the trails to see how wet it was (very wet). I came across a turtle, and I believe it is Turtle #3, which we first saw on May 27 in the grass north of the ring. Today, it (she) was on the other side of the creek along the perimeter trail west of the pasture. Here are pictures from May and today.

Also on my walk, I took this picture of the area I use to dump weeds in the woods. It has become a pond!

The early evening rain was a veritable monsoon, and with nowhere to go, the ground saturated, water washed across the lawn. Horses were out in it, and grazing without a care.

Roscoe was glad to be a housecat – too hot, too wet! Harry worked in the studio and, later, I snapped a picture of him on the couch this evening.

Our niece, Diana, is 34 today. She spent several summers of her youth with us in Bowling Green. Now, she is a nurse practitioner in Boston, married, and a mother, soon to have her second child. In honor of her birthday today, here she is on her 6th birthday in Bowling Green. We gave Willi to her, to be “her” horse when she was with us. She renamed him Joseph Wasserman. He was a horse of a lifetime, so kind and trustworthy! Diana was a fashion icon.

Jane tells me the Bridlespur Show is going to try again in July, so we hope to participate. Maybe the rain will have stopped by then. My friend Susie says that we are never more than two weeks from a drought. Even as wet as it is, I know she is right, but we could use a few dry days at this point.

Here is the “pondless” again this evening after another inch in the rain gauge.

Stay safe, stay well. Peace.
