It was yet another very warm day. The horses are enjoying their final night out. Tomorrow the weather will change.
This morning was beautiful. Tom Morris and Marmalade were ready for breakfast, and Tom Morris enjoyed basking in the sun after eating. Cedar had her cat food scatter, and wondered if she dared check out the shed, but she knew better.
I was in the office, where I can see the cars outside. Roscoe was under Harry’s car, and a mockingbird was sitting on the car mirror. The bird dropped to the ground for a crabapple, and Roscoe pounced. I was horrified. I ran outside and told Roscoe “No!”, which made no impression on him. Then I grabbed him and pried his mouth open. The unhurt mockingbird flew away, counting its blessings. I was amazed and relieved . I think the bird was more relieved than I was!
A mockingbird – maybe the one that almost died today, maybe just a relative
I continued to work outside, and Roscoe joined me, holding no grudge for the ruination of his hunt.
The mighty hunter at rest
I took a few pictures around the place, as autumn is winding down.
Carolina spice bush and quince The stream Bald cypress leaves carpet the ground Birdbath and witch hazel
I took a picture of Harry, so he took a picture of me.
Nettie had a good day. We let her go with us on an errand to the feed store. She loves to ride in the truck as an only dog. She would really prefer to be our one and only. Sadly, she can no longer jump into the truck, we have to lift her, which she hates, growling fiercely. But it was worth it, she was so happy to be in the back seat. Here is Harry telling her she can go with us. Note poor Weedy in the background behind the fence.
When we got the mail, I saw Jane’s dog, Gus behind his invisible fence. He is a handsome dog.
Our driveway is covered in oak leaves.
Finally, out in Montana, Rainy and Honey are eating hay with snow on the ground.
Stay safe, stay well.
I’m looking at your pictures of your farm animals as wild animals, for fun. What instigated this fantasy? A trip to the St. Louis Zoo (online of course). First, Marmalade and Tom Morris, did you know that Tiger’s stripes are not replicated on each side of the cat? Your two orange cats appear to be identical. Maybe next time you could take a photo of what distinguishes them, I can’t find one, the stripes are the same, the darker coat color under their eyes, therings on the neck and legs, fascinating! Roscoe, seemingly the professor of the group, relinquishes his quarry for his good human, nice. Then the dogs, evolutionary wise, great hunters too, but now they seem to have adopted human psychoses, as in Nettie, who you know I love because she is the best show dog ever, here in KY anyway! Anyway you look at this wonderful blog, it’s wonderful fun!! Oh! the photo of the Mockingbird is exquisite!
