Monday – June 8, 2020

It’s late, and has been a long, hot day, so this will be short.

Jane and I rode this morning, early, and were fairly uninspired. We made up for that after breakfast by doing a major jump reset on the ring. It was brutal!

Lunch was delicious and I let Mistletoe lick my plate.

I saw a red headed woodpecker today. They don’t often come near the house, so I was excited. I love their stark black, white and red coloring.

After lunch, rest was in order…

The computer is achingly slow tonight, so I am hampered.

We walked down to the ring later in the afternoon to replace the measuring tape, which had been left in the Mule (Kawasaki Mule, not to be confused with Montana mule!). The dogs really enjoyed it, despite the heat.

And finally, despite the computer’s obstinacy, here are two Montana mule baby pictures courtesy of Nancy Stevens. Rainy is learning to accept weight on her back!

And Rainy decides to eat Steve’s bandana.

Stay safe, stay well.

  1. Beautiful! Just lovely, happy to see Mistletoe gets the plate! The tree where your most inspired bird pictures are, is it a locust? Cover-worthy shots for Birds and Blooms magazine … contest-winners they are ❤️ Love your set-the-ring pics too. Jane is looking hot (and I don’t mean temperature) and you look like me after only one day of being on my feet whether I’m trying to move jumps or not! And God bless Harry and Weedy, they are priceless and timeless. Thank you!
    Peace, L

    1. That tree is called a “Twisty Baby Locust”. It came from Stark Nursery about ten years ago. They no longer offer it. It’s some sort of graft – the contorted tree is on regular thorny locust base, so I have to control upstarts of thorny locust growth, but it’s worth it. I love the tree, though I will not be surprised if it doesn’t last long – it grew very quickly, which was one of the reasons I picked it. Quick growth = short lived, as a rule.
Thanks for all your kind words. A particularly wonderful Borrowed Horsemanship collection this month, by the way! Loved the piece on Amy Goodman, horse sculpture. Still plenty of interesting articles I haven’t consumed but am looking forward to… a rainy day today (hooray!) will help with that.

  2. I’m glad that you captured a photo of the sky last night. I knew you’d have a better vantage point. Glad that you had a chance to rest because I wanted to, but slowly I worked. Great photo of the woodpecker. Always great to see your troops and Harry. Rest well.
