Temperatures really dropped last night, and the horses were very frisky this morning!
Soon enough, they settled to Spring grass and I spent some time at my desk. Meanwhile, Jane ventured out early to the grocery store, only to find that on Mondays they now open at noon! She returned to Wentzville at midday, and found a long, well distanced line. Once she got in, she found the produce was not great, but she did get her shopping done. I had requested some Tazo Earl Gray tea, if she saw any, since last time I went, they were out. She bought the last two boxes for Harry! Jane is our hero, as usual.
Harry split time between the studio, the office, and the bed. Because his leg swells so much, the new routine is to work an hour, rest (with leg elevated) an hour. It makes for a busy day, but the leg looks much better. He has a rather unique hanger for his cane at his desk…
My day did not seem to go smoothly, either. Maybe the stars are out of alignment. It certainly feels that way. But later in the afternoon, wind had died down a bit, and Jane brought Derry over to play with Bart and me. I was a little worried after hard romping this morning, that I might get bucked off, but Bart was spectacular. The day off had freshened his outlook, and he was a delight to ride, forward without being wild. We rode back from the ring together, happier than most in the midst of the coronavirus disruption.
We stopped at the studio and tried to get a picture of Harry through the window, but the glare made it almost impossible.
I have a new ambition in addition to my desire to catch a pileated woodpecker in flight. The bluebirds are nesting, and I aim to get a great bluebird picture. Here are practice shots today… you might need a magnifying glass.
Of course, the dogs and cats continue to give me photography subjects to share…
Roscoe Weedy Cedar and redbud Mistletoe Snaggletooth
Harry rests with Roscoe at the end of the day, watching the news…
And finally, Harry continues to be my favorite subject…
Stay well, keep up the distancing, the hand washing, the masks, and the gloves (in certain situations). Hope for testing to arrive for all, so that we can get safer sooner and forget all these rules. We will get beyond this eventually…
Wow, Thrilling is thrilling as ever! And arghh, the news is grim. Ted watches, I take a long hot bath. Love the bluebirds. Miss them too. Thanks for sharing, stay safe, good rides!
You are wise, Linda – baths over news every time! Bluebirds are such a joy – “a scrap of sky” some poet called them.
Thriling, two days ago I bid “Hello” to him at to his resting place for Harry. The picture of Harry watching the news says it all, it’s not a good idea. I love Harry’s portrait; handsome as ever! Hello to Jane! Sending Love in the Time of Covid ❤️. Good heavens! We are so lucky to have horses in our lives!
Thanks for saying hello to Thrilling for Harry. Next time we are at The Kentucky Horse Park, we will make a pilgrimage to his grave.
Oh, you are so right about the news. It’s just grim stuff.
We are, indeed, so lucky with horses in so many ways! We all send love back to you and Jesse in Kentucky.
