The hospital is quite a different place on Monday! After a relatively quiet weekend, it was hopping (so to speak) today, with many surgical patients arriving.
I set out to Starbucks first thing for my drug of choice, and breakfast for Harry. There on the seat of the car was the play script I thought I had forgotten. Not quite as big a fail as I thought! A good start to the day, though I still feel like a pretty big idiot.
Dr. Spitzfaden stopped in between surgeries and told Harry he was being released to Surrey Place. We were very pleased. But it turned out I gave incorrect information on the blog yesterday. The x ray at the end of this week will not show new bone healing starting yet! The purpose will be to see if the bone has stayed in a good position. If itâs shifted, surgery will be scheduled. So we are keeping fingers tightly crossed this week.
Physical Therapy stepped it up quite a bit. Harry was worn out by all the work. It was really a full day of busy work as we waited to be sent on to Surrey Place. We were both tired!
Jack came by to retrieve the script, and I did get a picture. Harry was too busy trying to make his notes legible to pose for a good picture…
I might be too tired for this. There was so much bureaucracy that, in the end, it was too late to go to Surrey Place by the time the insurance company cleared Harry to go! So we are in St. Luke’s for another night.
Pat is also going to be released to Surrey Place. It would be too funny if both she and Harry arrived on the same wheelchair transport!
Harry seems much better today. The leg swelling is down and he is much more agile on the walker. He passed the step test! After it was decided we were to stay another night, I was sent on a Chinese food mission to P.F. Chang’s and Harry’s appetite is back, which is a good sign. Seems we are trending in the right direction.
I went home late, too late to see the horses – Jane had already done night check. So I contented myself with dogs and Roscoe, got a few mundane chores wrapped up, and returned to the hospital.
If I had the energy I would rant about the stupidity of the way the insurance companies are running our healthcare. We know these things, but it really stuns you when you meet with misfortune and run up against it yourself. Ah, well… one thing a hospital will do is present things that show you it could be worse.
Our dear friend Dorothy had thoracic surgery at Missouri Baptist, and was finally in recovery late this evening. Good news arrived, and I hope we will all sleep well tonight. The Full Moon is waning, and luck may be improving.
Vlad gets the quote of the day. He said to Harry – “Harry, you are not old, you are just not careful!!
Vlad hit the nail on the head…part of the reason he doesn’t let me use hammers anymore.
I don’t use hammers to keep my fingers useful.
Glad you’re feeling better Harry.
Looks like progress is in the making! We have you all in our thoughts!
Thank you Rebecca and Victoria! Home soon…
Being careful is a bit of a pain. But pain can sometimes be a good teacher, just sayin. Be well soon friends.
