May Day – Friday, May 1, 2020

I was hoping for inspiration to strike me for today’s blog post. Instead, I found 17 ticks had attached to me over the course of the day! I had a meltdown, but have survived. This is one of the hazards of working outside. Usually, I am not much affected by ticks, but my nerves seem frayed. I blame coronavirus.

I’m afraid I didn’t take many pictures today. I intended to take the camera out after riding, but first I had to finish push mowing, and then it started to rain and that was that.

Earlier, I did see Cedar and Weedy lying in the sun…

I finished removing the wisteria from the pasture fence, a job Rebecca and I had tackled yesterday, but which required a chainsaw to finish. I was planning to take a picture, but forgot. The fence looks much better without the wisteria. I don’t know what I was thinking when I planted it there, years ago.

Nathan arrived midday and rode the mower for several hours. My part is push mowing, which is easier on my back.

It was so hot and buggy today that the horses ran into the shed by 9 AM, so I decided to change over to night turnout. I brought the horses in for the day. They were very happy.

Riding was no fun in the heat. And Bart was driven insane by a fly. Tomorrow I will use fly spray!

Harry worked hard today. He wore his ankle weights and did his prescribed exercises. I did make a quick visit to the studio. He looks completely healed when he is not using his cane.

Finally, despite being very tired and cranky, I saw the sunset was beautiful and tried to get a picture. It did not do justice.

End of the first day of May

All well here, and hoping the same goes for all out there. Stay safe, and let’s ride this pandemic out. Tomorrow will be a better day…

  1. Ouch, that’s a lot of ticks! Still looks beautiful—overused word—let’s go for bewitching, beguiling, a boon and a blessing. And of course enchanting, exquisite, elegant, and easy on the eyes (especially Harry and Weedy of course). Thanks for sharing. ❤️

  2. Healed and he looks happy! Weedy is such a ham! Tell Cedar that I admire her self control. All of my pups would have devoured the eggs if they had her opportunity. When you get your hens, maybe some guinea hens should tag along! I had a few but not 17!
