It was a beautiful, warm day to start the merry month. I was greeted by Rosie and Tom Morris when I emerged from the house.
The horses were ready to come in for breakfast and a rest.
I paid a visit to the studio to check in on Mater. She is going to be beautiful.
Harry went off to play golf, while I rode with Jane. We had a blast, but no pictures were taken. I was just washing off Stone, when Harry returned, having opted for nine holes instead of eighteen. It was nice that I didn’t have to eat lunch alone.
It was a great day for the back porch. Two more returning characters have arrived today, the oriole and the rose breasted grosbeak. Actually, I thought I saw the female grosbeak early in the morning, but I failed to get a picture, so I wasn’t sure. When I saw the male, he was not camera shy, and there was no doubt. We also had a visit from a squirrel, the first in a long time.

Roscoe was picturesque near the front bird bath.
Marianne came to do the barn work, while Harry and Jane and I were watching the Kentucky Derby, which was won by Medina Spirit, a horse none of us bet on. Jane got a little bit betting Hot Rod Charlie to show, but our online betting account has dropped precariously. We lost $27 today! About five years ago, we invested $50 for the three of us to play the ponies. Incredibly, we have enjoyed it for all this time. It was $55 and change this morning, and now we are down to $28 and change. We only bet on Triple Crown races, so the Preakness will be a make or break race for our little game.
On her way home, Jane stopped to visit with Marianne.
Finally, the strawberries are right on schedule, ripening for mid May feasting!
Stay safe, stay well. Peace.
Medina Spirit is described as “little” but nowhere can I find his height listed. He does look small compared to some others.
I have looked for his height, too, to no avail! Strange.
It was a good race! I am always suspicious of Bob Baffert, but his horses always look so peaceful, so no complaints. And it was cool to know he had to go to the front and stay there if he was to win. I’m kinda thinking that may not work for the Triple Crown. Have to admit I was a little happy to see the favorite get beat. I always root for the underdog, but I don’t think Baffert is ever an underdog.
I love the birds, but your “squirrel in flight” stole the show for me today hahahaha. Good thing he is landing soon.
Peace, L
