Light – February 18, 2021

Oh, joy! Sunshine this morning, and light at the end of the tunnel here in mid Missouri. One more night of single digit cold, and then the weather begins to moderate.

I’m almost too tired to blog, and there isn’t much news. I spent the day shoveling and hardly took any pictures. My arms are so sore, I can barely type. Harry worked in the studio and helped me with snow clearing, but I failed to take pictures. Snow shovels require both hands. It was worth it, though. Even though the high today was only 18 degrees Fahrenheit (about – 8 Celsius), the sun melted cleared paths.

The birds were dismayed by my presence on their personal back porch dining area, clearing snow. When I went in for a break, there was a wonderful group of goldfinches and a single cardinal, well lit by sunshine.

The horses napped in the sun.

Bart heard Jane’s donkey braying. He has not lost any weight, I’m sorry to say.

Marmalade and Licorice came to the barn today, which was a surprise. They might have been bothered by the tractor starting up in their shed.

Of course, Tom Morris found the camera this morning.

It’s been a difficult few days, and it is hard to even comprehend how terrible things have been in Texas. I cannot imagine trying to look after horses under those conditions. No electricity and no water. We count our blessings here. And we celebrate the cold, quiet night out there, sparkled with stars – since it is the last of the really cold nights.

Stay safe, stay well. Peace.

  1. Happy to hear you’re making it through. Shoveling snow and yoga has been the sum total of my exercise these days. Yoga wins.
It is so lovely when the sun comes out to make everything sparkle. Everyone looks fluffy and warm, thanks to your good works.
    Peace

  2. So excited that Marmalade and Licorice were in the barn! I hope that you and Harry admired your shoveled paths. Any reactions to the second dose of vaccine?
