Hot – July 7

It has been miserably hot, but we did have some very good luck. On Sunday evening at 10 PM, Harry’s heart returned to sinus rhythm thanks to an increase in sotalol, an anti arrhythmic drug. And, of course, thanks to Dr. Glenn Davison, the new cardiologist, for expertly adjusting the level. It took awhile to reach “steady state” (the increased level of medication in the blood), but the cardioversion was canceled on Tuesday, and Harry is feeling chipper again.

Unfortunately, there has been no improvement in the internet here, and no hope for that, so we muddle along, cursing and swearing. The horses moved to their preferred south pasture since the last blog post. The pastures need to rest, as do we, especially with this heat!

The birds continue to eat voraciously, delighting us as they do.

Flowers, too, bring joy in spite of the heat. Rebecca helps immensely in the garden, but no picture of her.

Since Derry is rehabbing, we must ride every morning. It seems a chore, until we get to the barn as the sun is coming up. Then, we remember that mornings are beautiful, even when muggy, and the the world is always better from the back of a horse. Harry was very sad that he couldn’t ride, but now he’s back in the saddle.

We have enjoyed tomatoes from the garden, but hornworms have arrived, to our dismay.

A more benign visitor is the gray tree frog, who likes the barn and shows up in different places.

Weedy spent some time in the creek yesterday, so we drove the Mule down to retrieve him. Harry took a selfie.

Harlan came on Wednesday instead of Tuesday this week, so the dumpster was very full. Not only was it expertly emptied, it was pushed to a perfect position, for which Marianne and I are always grateful.

Long, hot days exhaust all of us.

Be safe, be well, stay cool. Slava Ukraini! Peace.

  1. Celebrating Harry’s return to good health! Rain here in BG and 74 degree temps this morning. Will not last but a wonderful surprise especially the rain. We enjoy your news & pictures of all creatures great and small.

  2. Missed the pictures of birds, flowers and assorted animals. I’m happy to hear Harry is back in sync.

  3. Nutkin, now a fav of mine, I too love squirrels. What a happy bunch! Love the deferential Goldfinch in his golden yellow glory. Wow!!! The finches bathing are awesome!!! Frame it!! The Grackle’s prussian blue deep violet head is a color I’d like to replicate on canvas.
Poor Oisin, all trussed up, he looks miserable. But, what can you do? Not exactly a canidate for 24/7 turnout like my Jesse. Yes, everything, the world, life, friends and frustrations, all look better on the back of a horse! My goodness, I’m loquacious; I’m inspired by your photos and life!!
