Hectic Tuesday – March 3, 2020

This was quite a day. I was well rested after a peaceful day yesterday, and an evening session of mediation led by Roscoe…

… I left Harry to his second sleep this morning with Weedy, and headed out to the barn as the sun came up, to be ready for Marilyn’s visit for Coggins Tests and Spring vaccinations…

Best part of the day

I had cleaned the horses up because I thought Marilyn was going to take pictures for the Coggins tests, but it turned out they had already prepared the paperwork the old fashioned way with drawings, and no pictures were done. Oh, well, the horses looked nice as they were turned out. That didn’t last long, though…

Stone could hardly wait to get rid of that clean shine!

Harry was ready to get up and going for Kristin’s PT visit. He hopped to the bathroom to shave. On the way back to the “hospital room” (formerly the living room), Cedar thought he should spend some time rubbing her tummy!

Kristin made sure Harry was using the correct technique with his weight routine, and monitored our new knee bending exercises. Then, she took Harry for his first visit to the studio since the accident, and used the new ramp! It was very exciting, and a beautiful day to get outside.

We had just settled down, when Jonee and Bob, dear friends from Pike County, arrived with treats on their way south to run errands. They have both had their own experiences with broken bones in recent years, and were very empathetic. It was great to see them, and Jonee never fails to provide delicious food whenever we cross paths. Biscotti and scones and a home grown orchid were delivered with a short visit. I remembered to get a picture only as they were pulling out. And that’s when Jane arrived with a coffee, my favorite drug.

As Jonee and Bob pulled out, another visitor arrived. Harry enjoyed his visit, while Jane and I caught up on horse gossip.

Then before Mr. X departed, Bill Oakey pulled in with a full bag (including special Sacred Heart cartoons from Pamelah, who is too allergic to visit, but managed to send laughs, anyway). She also sent “Love Soup” and banana blueberry muffins in addition to the blue cheese crumbles we had requested. Bill has had his own health experiences which make Harry’s difficulty look like a delightful vacation (which it sort of is, apart from the pain and boredom). Bill’s company is always enjoyed, but he made a hugely helpful suggestion to use a different chair at the table, which makes it easier for Harry to get up and down. Sometimes new eyes see what we overlook. Such a simple thing, but so much better! Bill also mentioned that crocuses are up, which I had not had time to notice, so I rushed outside and found it to be true! Spring is indeed coming…

I took advantage of Bill’s visit to run up to the bank, then returned to bring the horses in. While I was in the barn, Jane texted with terrible news – Derry is suddenly very lame. I dashed over to see that Jane was not exaggerating. Poor Derry is crippled. But Fred, the farrier, is coming tomorrow, and we are betting on a hoof abscess. We soaked her foot and wrapped it for the night. We are counting on Fred to find and solve the problem. It was fun to visit next door at Winford Farm, and I took advantage of the chance to get some pictures…

End of a hectic day, well fed, and one day closer to the next turn in the road…

Harry manages to keep his sense of humor through it all.

The final picture for tonight…

Jonee’s beautiful orchid.

  1. Thanks for sharing! Hope Derry gets well faster than Harry though Harry is looking good….especially when he is outside in the sun……the Bronze Fox Resort complete with equine mud baths looks like a good place to be. And I am happy to see that Roscoe recognizes your need for therapy too.

  2. You run a three star restaurant at your place. I am never bringing the boiled hotdogs I intended to.
Wake Harry up and ask him if he thinks Bloomberg should drop out or carry on. No thirrdparty candidate has ever won, so that’s not an option. Bernie is honorable and compelling but no hope of winning the big election, and all the Repubs will vote for Trump against Bernie I think Biden looks older ….. but I will vote for the final Dem candidate and pray. I was really hoping for Mike getting it done.
