My negligence in photography today leads me to wonder if I should blog less frequently. I took only one picture of the first birds to arrive this morning (blue jays). Then, I noticed the battery was almost discharged, and so, the camera was out of commission for a while.
To my delight, Kevin texted me this morning to suggest a hay delivery, so I restacked the remaining bales and was ecstatic to receive 53 bales of Kevin’s wonderful hay, which should carry us through until grass begins to grow again. Jane, too, is now flush with good hay. We feel very lucky. Again, no picture.
I thought the warming weather would enable me to open the east doors of the barn. They were pretty stuck, but I made several tries, and managed to open the door half an inch, using all my strength.
I busied myself with several chores, then returned to try again. Roscoe was out and about, so he was photographed.
With supreme effort, I did manage to open the northern east door. Alas, I was unable to close it again.
And then it was time to bring the horses in. I had let them out into the field, underestimating the amount of melt we would have today. They were filthy. Instead of picking ice balls from feet, we were hosing mud. Tomorrow starts the paddock confinement, worst time of the year for the horses, as fields get a chance to recover and grass starts to grow.
At night check, I tried the door, and to my relief it had thawed enough to close. I returned to the house relieved, with a spectacular sky full of stars above and clean legged horses happily munching hay in a closed barn.
Finally, the sky at sunset this evening…
Stay safe, stay well. Peace.
I have discovered that if the next day’s blog doesn’t appear, I should click on “By Anne” at the top of the last post. Voila!
Peace
Good tip, Linda, my brilliant niece! It is correct, we normal folks just don’t notice stuff like that. Go Roscoe! Anne, how about adding commentary on something else, I have no idea what. I love your blogs and feel you are losing interest in them. Look at the birds I’ve been introduced to!
Oh, Jane! Sorry to seem to be losing interest – I will up the commentary! I am dealing with a bad tooth, which has me discouraged, but have just returned from the dentist, and now that I am addressing the problem, I feel much better.
I know that it is very time consuming for you to blog every day. It’s so kind of you to do so. Your blog is the first thing I look at in the morning. After not knowing anything about you for the last fifty years it’s so nice to know what you are doing everyday. I love the pictures of the birds, cats, dogs and horses. How about me buying you a extra battery for camera Anne.
Haha! You are so sweet, Woody! No worries – the camera battery is fine. My own battery was a little run down last night. Much better today!
Flush with good hay is among the best of flushes!
