Too bad the full sturgeon moon falls on a cloudy night, so no hope of a picture here. It is a full moon that is named for the once abundant, strange looking freshwater fish found in rivers and lakes, and migrating into the ocean, like salmon. Certainly those prehistoric creatures do still live in the Mississippi River, as they have for 135 million years. We celebrate their survival tonight.
Here, we had more wet weather, to the tune of another inch and a half of rain last night. Soon there will be sturgeons in the front garden at this rate! The day was pleasant, though a little rainy off and on. Actually our favorite, almost Irish, weather.
The birds were very happy, and I snapped a few pictures.
We had a delightful morning on the porch.

I ventured out to the feed store, and then to Rebecca’s to collect the peaches she had picked up for us. It was too wet for her to come here to garden.
On the way out, I saw these two youngsters.
At Rebecca’s, the chickens who provide our delicious eggs were in fine form. I was so enthralled by her birds, I neglected to get a a picture of Rebecca!

Harry never misses a day of exercise.
I used the Mule to transport softener salt to the basement (a glamorous life I live, indeed). To my dismay, it stopped running on my way back toward the barn. Might be the fuel pump, I have no idea. Anyway, I called the place that services it, and they will get here as soon as possible, which they expect will be two weeks!! Catastrophe! I will have to move things in a wheel barrow and will get almost as much exercise as Harry. In the meantime, we will have to mow around the Mule, as the grass is growing at an alarming rate.
Here it will stay for the foreseeable future…
I attended my first Zoom meeting – a USHJA virtual town hall about horse showing issues related to Covid-19. The Pony Finals last minute cancellation on Saturday has raised a lot of concern. The meeting was interesting, but still sort of vague. It remains to be seen whether horse showing will continue. Not as problematic as baseball… yet. The USHJA president, Mary Babick, seems very competent and nice. It’s a daunting job.
The horses here are happy and went out early, with horse flies impaired by the cool temperatures. The evening sky was beautiful, but I am ready for a few days of cloudless skies, even if the sunsets are boring.
August evening
Stay safe, stay well.
Wonderful shot of the hairy and downy together! Oh what gorgeous weather….. hope to see that “sturgeon” moon tonight.
Peace
The full moon was splendid in the western sky early this morning! The clear skies have arrived here.
Your and Harry’s days are full! Your vigor and many interests astound me. No lounging around like so many people do. Thank you for enjoying my fowl as much as I do. Always enjoy your blog!
