Harry is becoming more independent each day. No pictures today of him in bed with Weedy, Gerry will be happy to hear! I spent more time in the barn this morning, after fixing breakfast, and then Carmen arrived for OT. I don’t know why they call it Occupational Therapy. It seems very like PT to me, but I guess it has more focus on incorporating life activities. Anyway, Carmen worked Harry hard, and it was amazing to see him “walking” again. Joey (the PA at Woods Mill Orthopedics) has released the leg brace to 90 degrees, which means Harry can bend his leg. What a difference that makes!
Because of coronavirus, all health workers are now required to wear masks, which was a bit of a shock.
Harry used a scale to learn what 35 pounds of pressure feels like, and then he began to practice it.
Stone is trying to win the dirtiest horse in America award…
After lunch, Harry worked in the office. A pileated woodpecker (who seemed to be a young one) stopped by just outside the window. Roscoe was intrigued!

The weather was cold and windy. So much for early Spring! I went to the feed store and bought a bale of hay – yes, only one bale! But Kansas brome bales weigh 700 pounds and take up the whole bed of the truck! They also cost $122.00!! Long gone are the days of $1.50 bales of hay! Marianne and I untied it and unloaded the smaller sections (bales themselves, I guess), which was not too difficult with both of us working. I feel so fortunate to have Marianne around to help. So many things that are impossible struggles alone, are easy with her help.
Not much news, but Harry is accomplishing more each day, and in spite of the craziness in the outside world, there is some optimism here. At the same time, we are very sad for friends (almost everyone) whose lives are impacted by the coronavirus pandemic disruption. We hope it will be over more quickly than the predictions. Since we have been sheltering at home for six weeks now, it is less of a change to our lives than most…
Peace and health to all!
It may be a tired smile but the color is good! Thanks for sharing signs of progress!
A divine picture of your handsome Harry. And serene Roscoe, his Yen self observing the Pileated Woodpecker as a 700 C.E. Chinese poet. I do miss Weedy, however. Love these posts, your updates, they all make me feel closer. Thank you!
Anne I consider reading your blog a stopping to smell the roses of a day, thanks for blogging, and that’s quite a catch of the woodpecker in that pic! Nice!!
Thanks, Michael, you give me reason to keep at it!
