I woke up feeling great. Massage and heat had fixed my back right up and I was ready for the day. But it was COLD. Fred was coming to shoe the horses. Soon, I got so cold, I had to go to the house and put on long underwear. In April!!
I had turned the horses out in the paddocks before Fred arrived so that they wouldn’t be wild to work on, but they were so frustrated at not being out on the Spring grass that they were still impatient and fussy to shoe. In spite of that, we laughed a lot. Fred and I have wonderful political and philosophical discussions. Definitely not an echo chamber!
Once they were finished, and I let the horses out, there was maniacal romping. I have seldom seen them so wild. But that passed, and Spring grass settled them down.
Jane and I decided not to ride today because the weather was so unpleasant and promises to be nice tomorrow. It’s not like we will be needing to get ready for a show or anything anytime soon. Besides, from the looks of things, we could have had more wildness than we would like!
Vlad came to pick up an approved maquette. Tamara, his wife, is a nurse, so Vlad was very careful, wearing a mask and gloves. He did bring us a huge, delicious tart from Bonne Bouchee, one of our favorites!
Vlad in mask and gloves Delicious treat in Harry’s hands
Harry took things easy today, but it was PT day, and Dan arrived early afternoon to put Harry through his paces. We set up the bike in the basement, and Harry worked on cycling, along with many other exercises. Recovery is going to be a pretty big job – an hour and a half of exercise per day! But it will be worth it. Alas, I failed again to get a picture of Dan, nor did I get a picture of Harry on the bike. I was so freaked out about what a mess the basement is that I lost my focus, so to speak. Anyway, Dan took it in stride and he will be back in a few days for more. Maybe I will get a picture then.
Harry resumed resting his leg and watched a Harvard philosophy course. Nettie audited it. She is definitely Harvard material. She might be a bit weird, but she is incredibly intelligent. So is Harry – intelligent, that is, not weird!
Philosophical Harry Pragmatic Nettie
I was greatly relieved when all the horses came in this evening with shoes intact. Stone did something today I have never seen before. He was racing along, behind Bart, and he slipped and fell hard on his side. When he didn’t jump right up, I thought he might have broken his neck or something. Instead, after a few seconds lying there, he decided to have a good roll! I guess he found himself on the ground, and thought, huh, might as well make the best of it! I got a few more gray hairs, and he rolled off a few gray hairs in the grass.
I needed Roscoe’s company after a long, cold, stressful day. He obliged me…
Final picture of the day, Bart grazing through crabapple blossoms…
Stay safe, be well, laugh as much as you can.
Even standing ten feet apart it was so good to see Vlad, my friend and partner for 25 years. Zoom just doesn’t cut it. Using that tool or FaceTime makes me feel like an astronaut in the middle of a three year flight calling home. Even in a mask and gloves, face to face is so much better.
Take your protein pill and put your helmet ooonnnnnnnnnn……………..
❤️
Harry you’ve expressed perfectly my sentiments about Zoom and Face Time, “makes me feel like an astronaut in the middle of a three year flight calling home.” Hah Hah Hah!!! I guess you might call us people persons. Oh! and that picture of Bart in the middle of the crabapple blossoms, lovely! And Roscoe, snuggly up so sweet. I did a Weedy thing this morning. Stayed in bed, went back to sleep, and got up after 10 hours in bed. I simply needed my rest. This quarantine thingy can be exhausting!
Harry isn’t weird, but certainly isn’t normal – thank goodness.
Great picture with crabapple blossoms.
Amen to that!
