It seems August only just arrived, and here it is, nearly gone. What a whirlwind!
The Rose Tattoo performances were wonderful. I attended every one of them, and enjoyed the company of many friends, old and new, included. It was interesting to see the variations in each show, occasional glitches and always inspirational professionalism from the cast.
I cannot say that I am sorry to give up the long and frequent drives. We need a rest. When not on stage, Harry has been working furiously on a sculpture competition proposal, due September 1st. This afternoon, he has taken materials to UPS, and I have camped at Starbucks for WiFi to do a blog “catch up” post. Here is a series of progress pictures, taken August 12 to 30, and remember, The Rose Tattoo ran August 18 to 28!
It should be no surprise, then, with all this pressure, that Harry has also had to see the doctor, culminating in a “stress test” yesterday. He had to have a “chemical stress test” because he cannot walk on a treadmill, as he has developed a hernia. Luckily, the cardiologist called late yesterday evening with the good news that Harry is cleared for hernia surgery a week from Friday. As Gilda Radnor was fond of saying, “It’s always something…” And she never even got old. Later life is quite an adventure!
A week ago, with beautiful, cool weather, Harry took Weedy to town for a shopping trip. When they returned, I asked him to roll the window down for a picture.
Unfortunately, on Wednesday, when it was time to go to rehearsal, the battery was dead (a direct result of my request for a picture!). Luckily, we have matching Subarus, and a truck, so Harry took my car, and I jumped his battery with the truck. I am terrified of jumper cables, but I rose to the occasion, and all was well. Yes, I am bragging!
We had houseguests for the weekend, and Rebecca and Nathaniel were a big help in getting the place presentable.
Jane has started jumping Derry again, which is great fun, though I have been a bit short on time!
First lodgers, Jane McClaren and her terrier, Etta, from Kentucky, arrived Friday, and my brother, Michael, joined us from Seattle on Saturday. A foray to Whole Foods for supplies was conveniently scheduled on a doctor visit trip. There, we saw this guy shopping for meat.
Jane’s friend, Barry, was here too. It was a full house and lots of fun.
Saturday morning, I took a quick trip over to watch Susan and Melissa at the Happenstance Horse Show.
Well, time to get home to do some barn work. That’s all the news from here for now.
Be safe, be well. Slava Ukraini! Peace.
Happy to hear you guys have been having a good time. What fun it must have been to see The Rose Tattoo again and again! Life does seem to happen when we’re making other plans though. Be well Harry! It’s nice to see Jane and Barry getting out and about. Happy to hear Derry is doing well.
Slava Ukraini! Peace, L
Welcome back! Missed your photos & comments. Sorry we missed “The Rose Tattoo” road trip we had hoped for, but life comes first. Sending Harry our good health wishes for up coming surgery.
Great to see Michael’s smiling face!
Love from up North…Aunt Pat🧑🎤☘️
Sorry to have missed the Rose Tattoo, the days got away as usual. It was fun seeing you at Happenstance. It was a light show, I think everyone is ready for cooler weather and the St Louis National. Your pictures were great and I enjoyed the jumper cable indigent. Not my favorite thing to do either. Hope Harry’s surgery goes well.
Great horse show photos!! Perfect!! What fun we all had. Harry was magnificent in his three parts. The production was worthy of the Guthrie and the caste were superb. (Gee, is caste plural or singular?) Anyhoo, it proved to be an excellent weekend!! Don’t tell anyone, but Bronze Fox Farm out does the Four Seasons!
Hope I love your blogs, Anne. Our prayers are with you, Harry for a successful surgery.
Love,
Jan
That was supposed to read HOW I love your blogs.
I wish I could have come to see Harry in The Rose Tattoo, tell him I’m very sad to have missed it.
And thanks for featuring the horse show pictures of Melissa and me 🙂 your photos are always much better than the official photographer! We’re ready for the Charity!!
I’ve got to comment again. The photo of the bee on the passion flower is museum worthy. Anne, your photos are tops! The progressive ones of Harry’s current project are perfect! Good to see the stages and how his sculptures come alive. Good Luck Harry, surely you will win the contest! Thank you again, Anne, for the best trip to St. Louis! Wonderful to get to visit with Jane, and to see these photos of her jumping again! Loved getting to know Michael; Bronze Fox Farm stands for love!
OMG, your picture of Weedy riding shotgun, with an impressionistic Harry smiling behind him from the driver seat of one Subaru or another, AND Laura’s photo of the bee on a passion flower: those two defintely are keepers!
Happy 8/31, Dad would have been 98, and it’s Diana’s & Patrick’s 9th wedding anniversary.
Enjoy your Labor Day weekend!
Missed you Anne. Laura just keeps getting more beautiful all the time. Tell Harry to hang in there, you can’t keep a hardcore grunt down.
