It was a rainy start to Easter Sunday. Weedy didn’t even want to go adventuring.
The pond filled overnight and has resumed making beautiful rushing stream music.
Jane and I decided to give the horses the day off. I am not sorry, since I have developed ischial bursitis. The horses were delighted!
Janis texted to say that she had been hard at work in the kitchen and Bill was going to make a drive by drop off. With no idea what would be arriving, we were amazed when Bill arrived dressed up for Easter with a beautiful Pavlova! Which was served on a lovely silver platter fashioned of aluminum foil! What a special Easter! Janis creates another triumph.
Pavlova delivery! Bill presents Harry with an Easter treat Easter Pavlova – a new tradition
It was far too extravagant and generous of Janis and Bill, and we shared with Jane and Marianne. All of us felt very lucky to have such a special Easter treat!
Marianne with Pavlova to go Jane and Marianne
I have tried and tried to get a picture of a pileated woodpecker in flight. They announce their presence with a loud, hacking call, and I have made dozens of attempts, with disappointing results. I will continue to search for the ultimate shot, but here are some misses…
Harry took a picture of me taking pictures today…
My big project for the day was vacuuming those horrible Asian beetles – the ones that look like lady bugs, but instead are stinky, nasty and numerous – in the studio. I failed to take pictures of the masses of them, but just for the record, snapped this shot of a window sill. I swear there were thousands of them. They are a curse here!
While doing mindless jobs, like bug cleanup, I listen to podcasts. Today it was The Science of Happiness – Sam Harris interviewed Laurie Santos, a Yale professor who studies happiness and teaches the most popular class at Yale. It was very uplifting and interesting, and she mentioned that there is really more good in people than bad. I like to believe that, too. This has been a strange year – my faith in humanity was badly shaken in January, and then Harry had his accident, and we have been inundated with kindness. I forgot to mention in this blog something that happened on Wednesday at the grocery store. I was so stressed by shopping, I forgot it. A guy came into the store with a big package of toilet paper. He had found it in a cart in the parking lot – someone had forgotten it, so he was bringing it to the manager. It was a small act of kindness, and I do think there is more of that than there is hoarding. I like to hope so, anyway. It was nice to see it happen. I did feel very sorry for whoever forgot their toilet paper, though!
So, as the beneficiaries of Easter kindness, we hope that everyone else also had a happy Easter and that all are staying safe and well.
Want to bet how many readers will go to google ischial bursitis? Btw it is really too bad you can’t include the wonderful smell of the flowers around here. Such a pleasant way to know you don’t have a symptom of this virus. Thanks.
Oh well, any kind of bursitis could use a little rest, well done. Now Pavlova, that is Google-worthy! Undoubtably beyond my culinary skill set but looks divine and will definitely be worth a try! (If I can read, I can cook I say) Way to go Janis and Bill! And thanks Harry, for the shot of your bride! Stay home and enjoy your heaven on earth friends.
Linda, I think there is some talent involved in good cooking (particularly pie crusts). I lack that talent, for sure! But I have made a Pavlova, and it is one of my favorite treats. If I can do it, you can definitely master it! My goddaughter, Maisie, introduced me to the delicacy.
Old saying I’ve always heard – if it rains on Easter Sunday, it will rain for 6 Sundays following. Hope it’s wrong, although we didn’t get much here and it was over by the time I got out to feed – so I was able to ride (outside!) Happy Belated Easter Webers!
Hope it was a Happy (albeit strange) Easter up north. We definitely could have ridden, weatherwise, but I thought on the seventh day, Bart could rest. Also, my ischial bursitis has been complaining and rest is indicated. I hope that old saying is wrong, too, though April showers, as they say, bring May flowers. Now we have high winds, so riding this afternoon will be a challenge, judging from the morning romping. Maybe they got it all out of their systems.
I looked up both Pavlova, kinda knew she danced, and ischial bursitis. You all know, that I know what will help that, if not eliminate entirely, your nagging condition. Anytime you want more let me know! I’m not going anywhere. As with wonderful and wise Weedy, I too know rest is good. Easter in paradise along with surpirise deliveries, sounds blessed to me to me! Anne, your so close to that shot, the pileated woodpecker in flight. Motion shots so rely on the camera, right?
Well, Jane, if anything will drive me to a Bemer, it will be this sore butt!
I think the camera is up to the task of the motion shot, but pileated woodpeckers are very shy and don’t allow me much time to get ready. I shoot wildly without being able to get the damn birds in the viewfinder, hoping for something! It’s almost like they see the camera rising and leave the scene. You would think by now they would be habituated!
