Daylight Spending Time? – November 3

Daylight Saving Time ended last night, affording an extra hour of sleep, but earlier evenings ahead. Is this, then, Daylight Spending Time? No, just Central Standard time until they change the time again in Spring, confiscating the hour we “gained” last night. The weather today is balmy and damp, which is welcome.

Yesterday, the rain had not arrived, and we had a glorious day of weather for “doggie play day” in St. Louis at Louise’s beautiful home. Louise has a young boxer, Runcie, who has a great deal of energy, and the thought was that he and Eddy would enjoy each other. Eddy lives with sedate Weedy, and Runcie lives with Lindy, who is older and not one for wild games. The youngsters were set up for a play date.

Despite some apprehension, it was a great success! Louise is always a gracious hostess, and Runcie and Eddy were delighted to play together while we humans enjoyed lunch on the patio.

This morning looked like November, with gray skies, but it was quite warm. I took some pictures of the horses in the pasture, which was a lucky thing. Through the camera zoom lens, I could see the fence was broken! They have been moved to the north pasture until Nathaniel helps me get the very large tree out of the way. But I did get some pictures…

And so, it was a quiet weekend to start November, though not without some drama. Certainly, life around here is never boring!

Yesterday, we took a short walk two doors down from Louise’s to see Heinz’s magnificent house. I was particularly taken with this stained glass – a favorite Latin phrase Festina Lente, which translates as “Make haste slowly”. I love that it has a horse in the design, since the training of horses teaches humans that very thing. Much is accomplished if we take our time.

Be safe, be well, stay calm as the storm approaches. Be grateful and hopeful. God Save America, Slava Ukraini! Peace.

  1. Love the dogs at play and love the horses at play. Everyone looks like they’re having a great time and love the saying at the end of your post. How very true that is especially with horses. I hope the storm doesn’t do any damage to your property who knows maybe it won’t even come at all.

  2. I like the stained glass too and the phrase. Isn’t it wonderful to watch animals playing? Your pictures of them all are a delight. Sorry about the fence!

  3. As always, your words and pictures are a soothing balm, thank you. After five weeks on the road, I will arrive home today yippee.
God Save America, Slava Ukraini! Peace.

  4. I love all the wonderful photos of the animals playing so happily together.
Sorry about the fence – good thing no-one took off – I owned a horse once but he used to jump the fence at every opportunity and I spent my time chasing him around the village!!
    Festina Lente –

  5. It’s early morning and Barry comes down as I am relishing reading about the Bald Eagle and moans, “Well, tomorrow is D-Day.” I laugh and accept gladly another blog from you! The joy of the dogs and horses, your life of hard work paying off, and the Latin paradigm, Festina Lente underline my happiness, perhaps slowing down is what had brought this joy on, thanks Anne! Will someone please tell me the famous line of Garibaldi’s about living life.

    1. I insist that men shall have the right to work out their lives in their own way, always allowing to others the right to work out their lives in their own way, too.

  6. So glad the “play date” went well!!! Also, once again, I’m blown away by your photos and Stone is magnificent! Xo
