Comfort Food

My friend, Nancy from Montana (befriended in England in 1974) is a real writer. She works in the summer on wilderness trips as a cook, then writes funny (published) stories about her adventures. She sent this “Are you sure you should be cooking for Harry? We do want him to get well…”

Luckily, friends have brought huge quantities of food, much already cooked, so Harry is in no danger. The refrigerator is packed, and the healing is being hurried along with good eats.

We were both very tired this morning, but at last we had sunshine, so it was a joy for me to get up and outside. Harry won’t be doing that for a while, but he is being a great sport about it. I could not be as accepting of difficulty – but, then, he has been to both jungle and desert survival school. And Outward Bound. I took pictures of the horses as a vicarious thrill for him.

We did some Physical Therapy, walking (hopping) a new record distance, and then Corinne came for a visit. She picked up a prescription for us, and brought butter (Harry’s main staple) at Harry’s request. She also brought bags of delicious treats, including her famous butternut squash soup. The visit was fun, but Harry did get pretty tired (the hopping contributed to that)… At least I finally got a picture of Jane, who was also happy to see Corinne!

After a very short rest, the next visitors, Gerry and Betsey, arrived, bearing Nepalese food. Harry’s appetite was better than it has been. We also read Gerry’s latest play, so Harry was able to exercise his acting muscles, which we are very sad will not be on stage next month. The play was a short one act and quite impressive. Gerry is another real (published) writer. He also writes a blog that is very entertaining.

After wound dressing, it was time to do night check and end another day with a short visit to the barn…

Mistletoe wishes all a goodnight. She is exhausted from yapping at the visitors. Harry is her favorite human…

Rest heals, especially when mixed with good food and friends.
