After a pleasantly cool night, we brought the horses in and headed out to the Farmers’ Market at The Meadows in Lake St. Louis. It was a lot of fun. I was delighted to find some unusual tomato and pepper plants for the garden. Afterwards, we went out to breakfast, before Brett headed back to St. Louis.
Then it was time to start accustoming the horses to riding in the heat. Jane and I have entered the Bridlespur Horse Show at the end of June, and It’s highly unlikely that the temperatures will be cool.
Harry rode Stone, and I rode Oisin.
Then, Jane rode over on Derry and our Irish chestnuts did their workout at midday. We all survived, and it wasn’t too hot after all.
Nathaniel came after lunch and rode the big mower, while I did the push mowing. By that time it was quite hot! I took a break to get some pictures. The tanager was at the suet.
We watched the Belmont Stakes, but didn’t make any bets. Too bad, because we would have bet Hot Rod Charlie and Rombauer to show, and made some money! Essential Quality ran a great race, and deserved the win, but Hot Rod Charlie showed real heart in setting a hot pace and holding on for second.
Plans of gardening were postponed when a neighbor was unwell and needed a little help. My five minutes of nurse training comes in handy from time to time! Alas, my stupidity was also in evidence. I drove over in the Kawasaki Mule and ran it out of fuel, so I had to call Harry to rescue me.
Vegetable garden work awaits tomorrow. For today, here are some flowers blooming.
Coreopsis Coral Bells Clematis Etoile Rose
Finally, Rosie, who is a wonderful barn cat. I just wish she could deter raccoons!
Stay safe, stay well. Peace.
Absent-mindedness does not stupidity make and Bridlespur sounds like fun. Your pictures are delightful, thanks for sharing!
Hope your neighbor is ok.
Peace
Perfect wrap up of the Belmont! Hot Rod Charlie holding on like he did, and Essential Quality doing what a great distance horse does. A good and clean race! Your boys are so handsome, Stone with his chiseled face, Oisin with his white face and kind eyes, and Bart, all grand! Hey the Bridlespur HS sounds like fun! Let’s hope for clear days, and the air less wet. If you see this, I do not get these blogs on my email anymore, I miss that, and don’t know why. Happy Horses, Happy Days!
