August Thursday

I have been having frustrations with WordPress, so here is a short touching of base to see if all the restarts have helped.

The horses have been enjoying rich summer grass thanks to abundant rains. Daytime dieting is not having much of an effect against all that delicious greenery. Horseflies are the ruination of August (along with oak mites) but we have had some blessedly cool days. The evil flies love heat and humidity, so when mornings are cool, we find the horses outside, not hiding in the shed to avoid being bitten.

Mona, Bill’s dog, became my charge in mid July. She went from a boarding kennel to a neighbor, Kim, for agility tryouts. Alas, she did not have the “drive” for agility. Missouri / Kansas Border Collie Rescue (MoKan) was one of the many threads I pulled on while searching for a forever home, and they reached out to me. They went to evaluate Mona, then interviewed a retired man who had been a border collie owner twice before, and they made a match! So, Mona came here for a short while before moving to Wichita to her forever person. A happy ending, and I am very grateful to MoKan, and Kim, and many others who helped with Mona’s big adventure following Bill’s death. Eddy played many games of tug and chase with Mona. She enjoyed watching the Olympics and will be very happy back in a sedate environment in Kansas. Eddy was momentarily sad, but his default emotion is exuberant joy, so he has recovered.

And so it goes. Today, we had a delightful morning ride and a final, unseasonably pleasant day.

Be safe, be well, be grateful. Slava Ukraini! Peace.

  1. What a beautiful dog Mona is. Eddy did seem to be having a lot of fun with her! I’m glad she got a good home. August has been cooler here too. I am convinced the seasons have shifted.

  2. Happy to hear that Mona has found her home and that Harry, Stone, horses and dogs are looking so well. Here in Michigan, the leaves are already beginning to turn.
