April Fools’ Day – April 1

As a trusting (read gullible) person, I am not a fan of the tradition of pranks on April first, but I got through today unscathed.

We awoke to a light frost this morning, which worried me a bit for the lemon trees, which I had moved outside. But they seem quite happy.

Harlan was in fine form this morning. I was dismayed this afternoon to receive the first increased bill for dumpster service, and it was even higher than expected. Way more than a 100% increase! That is nothing to do with Harlan. He was unaware of the upcharge when I told him last week. Marianne will no longer be helping with barn chores as of April 1, because we are tightening our belts, so that will help. Of course, we will miss her.

Harry and I went into town this morning to do some shopping and the weather was mild, so the dogs could join us. They love trips, and getting out to smell new places.

Karen called this afternoon because Derry had roughed up Calvin, the pony, and he had a little scratch on his nose. I went over to have a look at it, and took some pictures. My friend says donkeys are “mystical and magical”, so I paid more attention to Sandy. I missed the picture of her braying, but she is adorable. Karen said it took quite a while before Sandy grew to trust here, but now they seem to be good friends.

All I have left to offer is more Spring flowers. This continues to be a rare year, with blooms remaining on the trees longer than usual. In a couple of days we might see redbuds, amelanchiers and dogwoods all blooming simultaneously in the woods. My photographs do not do justice! Unfortunately, the weather forecast for tomorrow is inclement, possibly some bad storms brewing. That may knock the blooms off the trees. April showers are in store, at the very least, and for several days.

Cats confer in the barn as the weather grows ominous outside.

Be safe, be well, be grateful. Stay strong, be kind, and hope for the best. Slava Ukraini! God Save America. Peace…

  1. Enjoy the commentary as well as the photos!
I can’t help thinking of Eddie Murphy when I look at the donkey (Shrek)!
No jokes on April Fool’s Day here, but I’m sure some wish the election in Wisconsin was! Fortunately, it was not a joke! The war is won by first winning many small battles !
    Slava Ukraini!

  2. Flower pictures are always a delight. I have an hydrangea the size of a bathtub but alas! The deer eat the blooms every summer.
