The heat was oppressive again today, so we gave the horses another day off.
I went to the dermatologist and was dismayed to get no real answer to the plague of teeny weeny bugs, smaller than seed ticks, that has attacked me. The doctor says they are seed tick nymphs, but I am not convinced. He says there is nothing to do about them, that the itching will subside. I hope he is right! Then, to add insult to injury, he attacked several minor skin lesions with liquid nitrogen so that I am free of potential skin cancers, but more hideous than usual.
The fun aspect of the day was that I went by The Tack Trunk while I was across the river – best store in the Midwest! I had groceries in the car, so I couldn’t stay long. The only chatter was excitement over the upcoming Kirkwood Horse Show, which promises to be very well attended. It will be the first show under the new management of DMG Horse Shows – Mo Duhon at the helm. Just ten days away.
Back home, I saw this guy…
I did do some mowing – the septic drain field was getting quite shaggy. While I was working, a deer came through, followed by two fawns. The youngsters were frightened by the loud riding mower and scampered off in the opposite direction. Before I was finished, the pair of them came around the perimeter of the pasture and into the woods after their mother. We are overrun with deer, but the fawns are still adorable and I hated to see them so stressed on a hot day. Their little mouths were open and panting. I didn’t have a camera, of course.
When it was time to turn horses out, I saw this impressive creature, so black and shiny – quite magnificent! Over three feet long…
And speaking of magnificent creatures… in the studio, the sculptor is doing some close work, requiring glasses.
Stay safe, stay well. Peace.
