Another Farewell

Our friend and neighbor, Terrilee Baxter, moved on to whatever comes next on May 4, Derby Day. She was the life of the party wherever she went. She told us about this place, where she and her husband, Burny, were building. We bought this beautiful patch in part thanks to Terrilee.

Over the years here (21 now), we watched Terrilee and Burny raise their daughter Isabella, who became a top young rider. Terrilee never missed a horse show.

She loved animals, and was a good rider herself, winning at the Paint World Horse Show. But Terrilee never talked about herself. She was always more interested in her family and her friends. Most of all, Terrilee was a fun person – the best hostess I have ever known. She kept an impeccable house and barn (one building) with many dogs and horses. She worked tirelessly, and laughed at me when I said I was embarrassed to invite them to this messy place. I cannot think of Terrilee without thinking of her laughter and her love of Burny and Isabella, and all those lucky animals that came under her care.

Terrilee was dealt a bad hand a few years ago, with a difficult cancer. She seemed to have vanquished the disease after grueling treatment, but a recurrence this year led to hospice recently, and I trust that she is now at peace, after a difficult time.

Godspeed, Terrilee – her memory will stay with all who knew her, and our hearts break for her family, losing her too soon. Rest in peace and laughter…

I didn’t know Terrilee well, but she was always enthusiastic when seeing me, greeted me as a friend, which was typical of a generous loving person. Life will be different without seeing her happy face at horse shows. We all lose when a vibrant person leaves us in such a sad fashion, but we can learn the lesson she left, which was be kind, have fun, smile often. Rest in peace, Terrilee. You will be missed.

  4. I’m so sorry. You’ve had so many losses. It’s nice to know that your friend will be so well remembered. In the end it’s all that matters, I think.
