Living on a farm, even a little one like ours, is full of unexpected small crises. We are always happy when it’s a thing that goes wrong, and not an animal. Today, Bart’s automatic waterer began to steam! It appears the thermostat needs to be replaced. The electrician (neither Harry nor I would dream of attempting this ourselves) is busy until tomorrow, but he will come in the morning and check on things. Luckily, we live next door to the most organized person alive, Jane, who had a spare thermostat available. A replacement for her, and a spare for us are on the way from Iowa, but judging from the caucus this week, it may take awhile.
Meanwhile, we are hoping the waterers won’t freeze tonight, with the electricity turned off. We can’t turn off just one – a fairly significant mistake we only just realized! Of course, it’s a cold night. This couldn’t happen when it was sixty degrees.
Breakthrough! After I wrote on the blog about Licorice living in the woods, she decided to make a liar out of me. I took some pictures of her this afternoon, and this evening, when we did night check, she showed up at the barn and is inside tonight! I hope she enjoys it. She’s not in the tackroom. That would be too much culture shock! But she can visit with the horses, and it is certainly warmer in there than in the woods.
Roscoe watches over me as I work at my desk. He will be very sad when I am well enough to spend the days outside again.
Snow turned to ice balls in the horses’ feet today. Beyond my reduced ability, but Harry came to the rescue.
😂😂😂. Yes it may take a while for anything from Iowa. Your kitties are almost as cute as mine.
Hope you get well soon!
With Harry on the job there is not a snowball’s chance in hell. Too bad cats cannot vote.
