“All wet” is defined as completely wrong, and that is certainly the way things are feeling. Steady rain greeted us this morning. Out went the dogs, and right back in, and Weedy didn’t even want to get into bed with Harry for second sleep. Maybe it was the rain beating on the skylights overhead. It was all wet.
The horses were locked back into the paddocks. It was a day to endure. But the daffodils are up, providing a little cheer…
The days are filled with routines and duties and they fly by, regardless of weather. Today was no different on that score, but life in the world at large gets more different by the hour, it seems. We get notified on our phones of stock market decreases and coronavirus case increases. We could be happily ensconced in isolation here, if we could stop listening, but we can’t. My reptile brain is scrambled with anxiety.
We took a break after lunch, as a distraction, to watch the Tom Hanks movie, A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood. It was not at all what we expected, and many tears were shed! I think we are fragile and fatigued from all that is happening, and the absence of a steady hand at the helm. The movie was good, but didn’t warrant the outpouring of emotion it evoked. Something else is going on.
I had two terrible jobs to do, and finally could not put them off any longer. One was the dreaded septic filter, and the other, more dreaded by far, was checking the electric fencing, which seemed not to be working. The horses were fighting over the fence. If the wire was electrified , they would be keeping their distance.
I am terrified of electricity, and I had called the fence supplier, who told me to check the fence with a tester. I do own a fence tester. It’s still in the original package, because I am so afraid to use it! But I steeled myself (so to speak), and decided to test it. However, before testing, I discovered that I had mixed up the plugs, and the reason the fence wasn’t hot was because it wasn’t plugged in. I sorted that out, pushed the ground in, and touched the tester to the wire. It snapped so hard that I jumped two feet into the air and almost tore my rotator cuff again. Seriously, I jerked so hard, it was an hour before my shoulder stopped hurting!
So that was my excitement for the day. I spent some time on the phone with a friend who has had some illness, but had a good report today. Touched base with Jane, of course. Several friends are stuck in assisted living or skilled nursing facilities and cannot have visitors. I spend a lot of time appreciating how lucky we are. I also spend time taking pictures, though not so many today. But while I was on the phone on the porch I snapped this of Roscoe, the king of cats in an undignified moment…
Our good friend, Laura Marlow is finally back from Colorado, where she was welcoming her new grandson, Guy, into the world. Here is the new baby with his older sister, Gigi…
Laura sent this most wonderful link today https://robmackintosh.net/a-healed-femur/ Really worth reading, and not terribly long.
Let’s all try to keep our compassion intact, as Harry has kept his sense of humor intact through all of this, while the world seems to devolve around us. We can look after each other.
Oh the healed femur is a nice piece, thanks for sharing. Sounds like adventures on the farm are keeping you on your toes. Stay in and be well friends.
