Yikes! Time is getting away from me at an alarming rate, while the internet connection continues to be impossibly slow.
The Tennessee Williams Festival opened on Thursday, August 18 at an unusual venue (The Big Top Circus Flora tent in downtown St. Louis), with a unique interpretation of The Rose Tattoo, influenced by Fellini and Charlie Chaplin. It is the featured event of the Festival, and Harry is honored to be a part of it. He played Nonno in Night Of The Iguana in 2019, and is thrilled to be back playing three parts in The Rose Tattoo – Miss Yorke, Father De Leo , and “The Ringmaster”. There were four performances this past week, with four more to come.
Photography during the performance was not allowed, but Suzy Gorman took professional pictures, and here are a few of Harry. Of course, the entire cast is wonderful, but I only have eyes for Harry.
Opening night went very well, Friday had a few hiccups, Saturday was a big, enthusiastic crowd, and a sizzling performance. Yesterday’s matinee was good, though the tent was not packed. The weather, for Missouri in August, has been remarkably favorable. There was some rain on Saturday evening, and tense moments as thunder rumbled, but the night turned out to be perfect. I have been enjoying every session, appreciating the gifted actors and the words of Tennessee Williams that they bring to life. The lead actor, Bradley Tejeda, is astonishing as Alvaro Mangiacavello. The entire cast is excellent, and Harry loves being a part of it. I love seeing him on stage.
As for the rest of the week, well, here are a few pictures…
Harry is hard at work in the studio, when he is not performing. There are not enough hours in the days lately!
The cats are enjoying this pleasant August, as are we all (except when victims of oak mites).
Creatures of all sorts continue to delight. Catbirds, cowbirds and swallows seem to have departed already. There is a feeling that summer is winding down.
Last Tuesday, Jane and Laura and I went to see In The Heights, at Stages, the musical theater in Kirkwood. Harry couldn’t go, with rehearsals. We were not crazy about the show, but it was great fun to be together.
And so it goes…
Be safe, be well. Continue to pray for Ukraine… Slava Ukraini! Peace.
Love his blog so much, I sent it to my new friend. Anne, your photography seems to get better and better. Astonishing considering your established deftness with the art. To all the animals, “Watch out!” “Here comes the huntress, Diana, aka Etta James!” We’ll promise not to disrupt your peaceful paradise. As to The Rose Tattoo, you said Harry had a small part, hardly, he has three parts! Man oh man, he looks good as the Ringmaster! Can’t wait to see this usual and very interesting production. Must read it again!
I love how Tom Morris and Marmalade always curl around each other. Harry is so versatile! Fall is arriving here too.
Miss Yorke is a great look on Harry, I must say- wish I could’ve attended but the recap sounds great- a fine success all ‘round by fine actors. This blog always feels so light-filled and multi-faceted. Bravo to you both!
